WHAT IS IT?

Mastering Line-by-Line in Fiction: A Live Scene Writing Workshop is a 6-week group training and 1-on-1 workshopping program designed to ensure you level up your dialogue and scene writing.

Limited to 50 students, this will provide the perfect environment to get specific feedback and instruction to level up your skills as a writer.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Mastering Line-by-Line in Fiction: A Live Scene Writing Workshop is for any writer that’s ready to put in the time and gain the skills to improve their writing. It will work for any writer at any point in their writing as it will give you the skill development you need to improve all of your future writing.

WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN?

Mastering Line-by-Line in Fiction: A Live Scene Writing Workshop is hosted online. The weekly 90-minute training and group workshopping will be hosted on Zoom and the dedicated cohort discussion channel will be hosted on Slack. You will be able to submit your homework for the weekly group workshop via Google Docs.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The first week will be focused on training, reviewing Masterwork example scenes, and reviewing the first week’s assignment. In the following five live calls, we will do a small amount of training, but use most of the time workshopping your homework scenes submitted from the previous week. In between the live calls, you will have daily group exercises in the Cohort Discussion Channel.

WHEN DOES IT START?

The program begins with a kickoff call on Monday, January 13th at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern. Following that, you'll join one of three weekly cohorts, choosing the day and time that best fits your schedule. The workshop runs for six weeks, with your cohort meeting at the same time each week.

WHY DOES IT EXIST?

We want to help writers gain the skills they need to write a book and leave a legacy. The most important skill to master is writing a great scene, so we want to spend six weeks helping you level up this all-important skill.

Here's How It Works

Weekly Live Instruction

Each week you will receive clear, actionable instruction on what makes a great scene writing.

Weekly Practice

Each week you will write a scene and turn it into your Story Grid Coach. Your Coach will give you specific feedback on what you did right, what you did wrong, and assign custom homework so you can improve in the coming week.

Weekly Group Workshop

Each week you will participate in analyzing both masterwork and student scenes in order to learn how to analyze your own writing.

Daily Group Practice

Every weekday, we will post a daily group exercise to practice the micro skills being taught each week during the live training.

Cohort Discussion Channel

All of the students will have access to a private Slack channel to discuss the weekly training, participate in the daily group exercises, and collaborate together throughout the six week workshop.

Archive Access

You will retain future access to all recordings of the live training and workshops to review in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are the weekly meetings? What if I can't attend live?

Following our kickoff call on Monday, January 13th, you'll join one of three weekly cohort meetings. Each cohort meets at the same time every week for six weeks. We're carefully scheduling these cohorts across different days and time slots to accommodate various time zones and schedules, ensuring you'll find a time that works for you.

If you're unable to attend any session live, recordings will be provided within twenty-four hours of each meeting. You'll still be able to submit your weekly scene and receive feedback, ensuring you don't miss out on the workshop's benefits.

Do I need to be an experienced writer?

Not at all! In fact, learning these fundamental skills of scene writers will save you years of trying to figure it out on your own.

How does the feedback work?

Each week when you turn in your scene, a Story Grid Coach will read and analyze the scene using the Story Grid Methodology. They will annotate your scene and record a video walking through what you did right, what you did wrong, and how to improve in the coming week.

How do the writing assignments work?

The first week, you will be given an assignment to write a scene that is a maximum of 800 words. You will have 5 days to turn submit your scene to your coach.

From then on, your coach will give you an assignment each week to match what you need to improve on based on the feedback they give to you.

Will my assignments be analyzed every week?

Yes! Each week a Story Grid Coach will review and provide feedback on your scene along with specific steps to take to improve for the following week. This includes specific homework for you to practice in order to improve.

The analyzation will be given in the form of an annotated version of your scene plus a video walking you through what you did right, what you did wrong, and what you need to improve on in the coming week.

Should I use scenes from my work-in-progress?

We have found it does not work well if you bring in previous writing you have done or write scenes that you hope to publish. This workshop is focused on practice and skill development. We want to help you level up your skills here so you can write better for the rest of your life.

How do I sign up for the workshop?

We recommend you apply for your spot as soon as possible. This will ensure we create the best learning environment possible for all of the students.

Is there a guarantee? What if I'm not a better writer at the end?

We offer a 100% money-back guarantee. If you get to the end of the six weeks and feel that you have not improved as a writer, we want you to ask for your money back.

However, the only way this workshop will work for you is if you go through the weekly training and complete the writing assignments. Therefore, when you ask for a refund, we will ask you to send us your completed assignments so we can see you actively engaged in the program.

We recommend you do not join the program if you cannot commit to going through the weekly 90-minute training and completing the weekly writing assignments.

What if I have more questions?

Email [email protected] and we will get back to you quickly.
